Medical services towards a more positive life journey

FENW delivers emergency and non-emergency accommodation, as well as related services for entrenched rough sleepers and homeless people.

FENW Outreach Team responds to a range of calls from both agencies and members of the public through Rough Sleepers hotline. They offer adapted service to anyone found sleeping on the street thanks to the information received through these calls. For some it is helping them returning home, for others it is giving them accommodation and support. Those are led into a focused and personalised action plan following the following steps: safe seats, core bed units, dispersed properties and finally full independence.

In the transition from street homelessness to supported accommodation, the customers are encouraged to address their health needs formally. For the last year FENW has actively challenged customers’ own beliefs that they are second class citizens so that they build enough confidence and self-esteem to begin tackle their health problems. They now need a new medical facilities room in a non threatening and supportive environment.

Funding provided by the VINCI UK Foundation: £10,000.

In addition to the medical facilities room, a new working kitchen will be built thanks to this grant. The kitchen will be used by both core bed customers during training, and staff in the provision of hot meals for the customers accessing emergency safe seat provision.

VINCI Sponsor: Will Grattan, Senior Design Manager, VINCI Construction.

  • Will will take part in the day life of the project from construction through to opening and promotion of the facilities.
  • He will also support the charity through providing career advice and interview practise for the customers ready to return to work and moving onto sustainable accommodation.
